Alice Lovingood Chastain

April 13, 1937 — April 5, 2026

Alice Lovingood Chastain, 88, of the Martins Creek Community, Murphy, entered heaven on Easter Sunday, April 5th, 2026, in her home surrounded by her devoted daughters.

Born April 13th, 1937, in Hanging Dog, she was the daughter of the late Wade Hampton Lovingood and Edith Fannie Palmer Lovingood.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Franklin James "Jimmy" Chastain; 3 brothers, Bill Lovingood ( Sally Ferguson Lovingood) of Chapel Hill, NC, Jack Lovingood (Darlene Chastain Lovingood) of Murphy, and Ed Lovingood (Mildred Lovingood) of Murphy.

She is survived by three daughters, April Chastain Martin (Eddie Martin) of Bellview, Tammy Chastain Jones of Martins Creek, and Misty Love Chastain of Martins Creek. Additionally, she is survived by brothers Charles Lovingood (Pat Lovingood) of Fort Chiswell, VA, Bob Lovingood (Brenda Lovingood) of Max Meadows, VA, Dan Lovingood (Darlene Lovingood) of Dublin, VA, John Lovingood of Wytheville, VA, and sister Ann Lovingood Wells (Hubert Wells) of Murphy. Alice had 1 granddaughter, 1 grandson, 4 great grandchildren, and a multitude of very special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alice graduated from Murphy High School in the Class of 1956 and she was always planning and attending all class reunions with her lifelong friends. She attended Truett McConnell College where she played basketball for a year before she returned home to marry her high school sweetheart, Jimmy Chastain. They briefly lived in Akron, OH before returning to settle in the Martins Creek Community to build a home and raise their family. She worked and retired from Clifton Precision in Peachtree.
Alice never met a stranger and was known and loved by countless people. She enjoyed bowling, horse shoes, camping, hunting, water skiing, gardening, canning, quilting, cooking, watching NASCAR, cheering for both Bill and Chase Elliott, collecting antique cars, and tending to her chickens. She was hard working, but enjoyed spending time with her family and friends most of all. She considered herself old fashioned until the day she died and was proud of it. She was known for calling in on party line on local radio. She loved genealogy and looked forward to attending the Lovingood family reunion every year. She was active in many community organizations and church activities over the years to include bowling leagues, Good Neighbor Auto Club, Farm Bureau, TOPS, Busy Bees, Hanging Dog Baptist Church, Old Martins Creek Methodist Church, and Ivy Log Baptist Church. She continued to write letters and send cards to family and friends up to her death.
