Bessie Lea Underwood Gibson, born January 17, 1933, to Roy and Bonnie Allen Underwood, passed away surrounded by her loving family on December 16, 2025.
She walked through life with a quiet strength and a warm spirit, embodying her faith and showcasing a beautiful, godly example for all who knew her. Bessie was not only a faithful follower and witness for Jesus as Savior and Lord, but she also shared that spirit of devotion with those around her, touching many hearts along the way.
Her life was truly a reflection of the love she held for her family and her belief in the goodness of God. Bessie demonstrated what it meant to live a kind and grace-filled life. She was a testament to the nurturing love and values that she carried forward.
She is preceded in death by her late husband, William H. Gibson (Bill); her son, Farris W. Gibson; and her daughter, Marsha A. Gibson Shook.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and William Burrell; grandchildren Brandon (Brittany) Shook, Brittany Shook (David) Bradshaw, Matthew (Gwen) Gibson, Stephanie (Charles) Robinson, Farrah Mia Gibson, and Ramona Lea Gibson; great-grandchildren Riley D. Gibson, Isabella, Skyla and Madilyn Shook, and Ryleand Shook.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 3:30 pm at Cochran McDaniel Funeral Home of Hiawassee, GA, with Pastor Mark Shook and Billy Nicholson officiating.
Family will receive friends on Friday, December19, 2025, from 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm at Cochran McDaniel Funeral Home of Hiawassee, GA.
Interment will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Matthew Gibson, Charles Robinson, Ryleand Shook, David Bradshaw, Gerald Foster, and Dale Foster. Honorary Pallbearers are Brandon Shook and William Burrell.
As we remember Bessie, we find comfort in her inspiring legacy, knowing that her faith will continue to light the way for those she loved. She is now reunited with her loved ones in everlasting peace, leaving behind a trail of cherished memories and a lasting reminder of the power of love and faith.
