Carroll Barr Loper, 86, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024, at his home in Hiawassee, GA, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 16, 1938, in Brunswick, GA, Carroll dedicated his life to his family, his faith, and his Country.

A devout Christian, Carroll was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Blairsville. His faith was evident in his daily life, especially in his commitment to reading and studying the Bible, praying for his loved ones, and embodying the love of Jesus Christ.

He graduated from Glynn Academy High School in Brunswick, GA in 1956. Carroll proudly served in the U.S. Army, enlisting in 1956. After completing basic training at Fort Jackson, SC, he served in several units and concluded his military career in November 1969 with the rank of First Sergeant. Following his military service, Carroll embarked on a successful career at Georgia Pacific, where he worked as a Pulp Mill Supervisor in Brunswick, GA, from 1956 until his retirement in 1996.

Beyond his professional and military achievements, Carroll was a man who cherished his family deeply. He is survived by his wife of many years, Judy Loper; his children, Chris Loper (Cyndie) of Dover, Arkansas, Greg Loper (Sherry) of Ellijay, GA, and Christy Carter (Ryker) of St. Simons Island, GA. Carroll was a beloved grandfather to Daniel Loper, Kristen Nordin, Jake Loper, John Loper, Mark Loper, Kinsley Carter, Jenna Carter, Dianna Carter, and Alley Carter, and five great-grandchildren. His legacy continues through his extensive family, including many nieces and nephews, and his sisters, Jackie Flanagan (Brunswick, GA), Betty Holley (Brunswick, GA), and Patricia Dowling (Jacksonville, FL).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Eldon Loper and Verla Davis Loper of Brunswick, GA, and his siblings, Davis Loper, Kenneth Loper, Doris Roundtree, and Jeanette Frame.

Carroll's hobbies included tending to his farm animals, working in his garden, and supporting the Georgia Bulldogs. His presence was a blessing to all who knew him, always ready with a smile, a hug, and a kind word.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Choestoe Baptist Church, Blairsville, GA. Interment to follow at Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are: John Loper, Logan Loper, Ryker Carter, Daniel Loper, Robert Baker. Graveside Military Rites presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard. 

Family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, September 28th at Choestoe Baptist Church.

Flowers excepted, or in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Carroll's memory to the Shriner's Children's Hospital. Carroll's life was a testament to his faith, his love for his family, and his enduring kindness to others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
