Christopher Lane Wilkins

October 12, 1949 — May 21, 2025

Christopher Lane "Chris" Wilkins, 75, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, in Canton, Georgia. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and veteran, Chris lived a life marked by service, integrity, and unwavering dedication to his family.

Born on October 12, 1949, in New York City, New York, Chris was the son of Lane and Margaret Wilkins. From an early age, he developed a fascination with airplanes and trains- interests that would shape both his personal passions and professional path.

In December 1967, Chris answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. He served honorably during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970. His time in the Marines instilled in him a deep sense of duty and resilience that remained with him throughout his life.

After completing his military service in September 1970, Chris pursued higher education at Suffolk Community College, where he earned an Associate's Degree in Art. He also obtained his Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license--a credential that launched a long and accomplished career in the aerospace industry.

Chris worked for several major defense contractors, including Fairchild Republic, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman. Starting as an aircraft mechanic, he later advanced into management roles supporting aircraft operations. His technical expertise and leadership contributed significantly to projects that supported national defense and aviation innovation.

Beyond his professional achievements, Chrus was deeply rooted in his Catholic faith and cherished time spent with loved ones. He was known for his honesty and strong moral compass--always standing up for what he believed was right. Family was at the heart of everything he did; he consistently put others before himself and found immense joy in being surrounded by those he loved.

Chris is survived by his beloved wife Karen Wilkins; daughter Christina McWilliams and her husband Dennis; sons Lane Wilkins and Kyle Wilkins; brother Brian Wilkins and sister-in-law Dee Dee Wilkins. He was a proud grandfather to Tyler McWilliams, Corey Wilkins, Angelina Wilkins, Kirstyn McWilliams, Nathan Wilkins, Tommy Wilkins, Joey Wilkins, Savannah Wilkins, and Kayden McWilliams.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lane and Margaret Wilkins; brothers Joseph J. Wilkins and Thomas J. Wilkins.

Chris found great pleasure in simple joys--fishing on quiet mornings, gardening, loved building Lionel train layouts, and never lost his love for aviation.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Christopher Lane "Chris" Wilkins leaves behind a legacy of strength, loyalty, and love--a life well-lived in service to others. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
