Chrystal Brown

Chrystal Eva Brown, 65, of Ellijay passed away at PruittHealth facility in Jasper on Thursday, May 11, 2023 after a brief illness.  She was preceded in death by her parents Joe Brown and Eva Gray Mobley, sister Catherine M. Ballew and nephew Corey Mobley.  Chrystal is survived by her brother-in-law Michael Ballew, niece Amber Ballew (Dustin Drennan), and great nephews Austin and Mason Drennan.  She is also survived by cousins Barry (Alison) George, Garry (Jeanie) George, Lyn G. Harbin, Jacque (Tsali) Bentley, and her caregiver Stacey Griggs and the Griggs family.

For the past twenty years, Chrystal lived with Stacey Griggs at the Creekside Group Home where she was cared for lovingly and became part of the Griggs’ family.  During the day, Chrystal attended Mineral Springs Center in Blue Ridge and later attended Burnt Mountain Center in Jasper.  Chrystal made many friends greeting everyone with her favorite welcome of “Hey, Buddy!”

Chrystal enjoyed working at the Blue Ridge Save-A-Lot, cheering for the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs, and weaving potholders to sell.  Her favorite pastimes were playing a mean game of checkers, Rummy or Uno, winning the majority of the games she played while showing no mercy for her opponent.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 11:00 am at Cochran Funeral Home in Blue Ridge with Chaplain Joel Chastain officiating.  The family will receive friends and all “buddies” prior to the service at 10:00 am at the funeral home.  A private burial will take place at a later date.
