Clara Bell Mathis

January 17, 1936 — December 21, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Clara Bell Mathis, who went to be with the Lord peacefully on December 21, 2024, at Stonehenge, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. Born on January 17, 1936, in Blairsville, Georgia, Clara devoted her life to her family and loved serving others in her community with generosity, warmth, and compassion.

Clara was a beloved mother to Stanley Mathis and a cherished mother-in-law to Janet Mathis. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she found immeasurable joy in the lives of her grandchildren Meghan (Bobby) Brady; step-grandchildren Michelle Horton and Amanda (Brandon) Woods; her great-grandchildren Jackson, Kaelyn, Paisley, and Declan; and her step-great-grandchildren Ella Kate, Lawson, Lyndon, and Palmer. Clara's love extended to her many nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts.

An accomplished administrative assistant, Clara dedicated many years of her professional life to Allied Systems, contributing to the business world with diligence and grace. Later in her life, she devoted her time to volunteering at Mountain Grace Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member.

Clara was renowned for her culinary talents, crafting special dishes that celebrated the love she had for her family specific to each ones "favorite dish". From delicious coconut cake to delightful apple dumplings, deviled eggs, pound cake, and chocolate pie, every meal she prepared was a heartfelt gift that made each gathering feel special. Clara's hospitality was unmatched; she often hosted "fish fry" celebrations and cherished all the family trips to the beach, always surrounded by laughter and the joy of togetherness.

Together with her husband Hugh, Clara shared a remarkable journey of 63 years of marriage, filled with love, support, and enduring partnership. She taught us the value of generosity, often giving to others before herself.

The funeral services to honor Clara’s life will be held on December 28, 2024, with Kyle Cody Officiating. Special Music will be provided by Charlie Sexton and Heather Henderson. There will be a visitation at Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home, Blairsville Chapel from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers Loy Cook, Troy Cook, Kenny Cook, Wes Garrett, John Kelvin Sexton, Matthew Cook, and honorary pallbearer Oran Cook

Clara will be laid to rest at Mountain Grace Baptist Church Cemetery in Hayesville, North Carolina.
