Connie Louise Ballew Ramey

Mrs. Connie Louise Ballew Ramey, 77, of Epworth, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home on September 29, 2025. Connie was born on December 1, 1947, in Copperhill, Tennessee, to her parents, the late Clarence and Ruth Ballew. Connie is survived by her husband of 39 years, Buford Ramey; her daughter, Debbie Sorrells; her sister, Judy (Phil) Byler; and her brother, Mike (Sherri) Ballew. In addition, Connie was a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews: Timothy (Cindy) Byler, Wendy (Todd) Walters, Sarah (Chris) Welch, and Michael (Ashley) Ballew. She was further blessed with five great-nieces, three great-nephews, three great-great-nieces, and two great-great-nephews. Cherished friends included Mary Sharp, Patricia Brown, Donna Farmer, Beth Watson, Sheila Eavenson, Naomi Grubb, and many more friends at church, work, and in her sorority.

Connie graduated from West Fannin High School in 1966 and moved to Atlanta shortly thereafter to work at Southern Bell. She worked there until she moved back to Epworth in 1969. After Debbie was born, Connie began working at Tri-State EMC as a cashier. Connie was gifted in the world of finance, and she eventually rose to the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) prior to her retirement in 2014. Dedicated and hardworking, Connie took great pride in her career, the colleagues she worked alongside, and the opportunity to serve her community.

A devoted member of Epworth First Baptist Church, Connie was active in church from a young age. Following her statement of Faith and salvation, she joined the church, immersing herself in church activities. Upon her return from Atlanta, Connie began playing the piano for services. She continued to serve her Epworth family of faith in this way for approximately 40 years until declining vision and health issues impacted her ability to play. Connie always said she enjoyed her small part to help God’s kingdom and the church.

It has been said that “quiet service is often the loudest sermon,” and Connie’s life was exactly that. Though she was quiet by nature (probably because her siblings talked so much she never had a chance to interject), her life spoke volumes as a testimony of her faith in God and her steadfast Christian walk as she lived out her values with love and consistency.

In addition, Connie loved traveling, and she particularly enjoyed swimming. Connie also deeply valued her Sorority Sisters from Beta Sigma Phi; with them, she shared gatherings, food, laughter, and bonds of friendship that lasted throughout her life.

Connie delighted in family gatherings and in giving generously to others, always preferring to give rather than to receive. One of her favorite traditions was the annual Christmas Eve“White Elephant” exchange, which she transformed into an art form, snickering throughout as increasingly hilarious packages were opened. Her dry, quick wit and playful humor often appeared in unexpected ways—such as slipping a potato into a Trick-or-Treater’s basket.

Matthew 5:16 reminds us, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Connie lived this verse daily. Though she was quiet by nature, her life shone brightly through her generosity, her years of faithful service at Epworth First Baptist Church, and her devotion to family and friends. Her light was not loud or showy, but steady and true—guiding others toward God through the example of her love, kindness, and humility. In Connie, we see a life lived as a testament of faith.

Funeral services will be at Epworth First Baptist Church on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., with Dr. Tom Jordan and Dr. Phil Byler officiating. Music will be provided by the Rev. Doug Simonds. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the funeral service at Epworth First Baptist Church from 3:00-4:45 p.m.

Interment will follow the service in the Epworth First Baptist Church Cemetery with the following individuals serving as Pallbearers: Michael Ballew, Jonathan Farmer, Jordan Farmer, Steve Grubb, Marvin Jones, and William McClure. The Deacons of Epworth Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Epworth Baptist Church Quilting Ministry, P.O. Box 187, Epworth, GA, 30541. The family also wants to thank Pruitt Hospice for their care and compassion during this difficult time. Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of the Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home. Her family finds comfort in knowing that Connie’s life of faith, generosity, and quiet service continues to inspire all who knew her.
