Dorothy Floyd

Dorothy Floyd of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away on December 29, 2025. She was born on May 20, 1944, in Blairsville to Roy and Connie McCarter, and she spent her life deeply rooted in the place she called home.

Dorothy found her greatest joy outdoors. Her flower garden was a true labor of love, filled with color and carefully tended blooms, and she took great pride in keeping a pristine front yard that reflected her attention to detail and care for her home. She was especially delighted in watching hummingbirds visit her feeder, finding peace and simple joy in those quiet moments spent on the front porch surrounded by nature.

Above all else, Dorothy treasured her family. She never missed a chance to watch her loved ones compete in horse shows, cheering them on with pride and genuine excitement. Her love was also felt most strongly in the kitchen, where she earned a reputation as an exceptional Southern cook. Holidays were her specialty, and she took great joy in preparing meals that brought family and friends together around the table.

Dorothy also enjoyed trout fishing, embracing the calm and stillness of time spent by the water. Her life was marked by warmth, simplicity, and a deep connection to the world around her—qualities that made her presence comforting and unforgettable.

She is survived by her children, Jackie (Michael) Sexton and Tommy (Lisa) Floyd, and her grandchildren, Christopher (Alexa) Sexton and Casey Floyd.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Andrew Floyd, her parents, Roy and Connie McCarter, and her siblings Ruth, Louise, and Francis.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home in Blairsville, Georgia, with Keith Martin officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Dorothy Floyd will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her love for family, nature, and good food will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
