Eleanor Peney

May 3, 1944 — February 27, 2023

Eleanor “Ellie” (Potter) Peney, age 78, of Blairsville, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 27th, 2023.

Ellie was born May 3, 1944 in Miami, Florida to the late Mary Novak and William Potter and was raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. There she met the love of her life, Joel Peney. They married in 1964 and, after relocating to Memphis, Tennessee, Ellie gave birth in 1968 to their twin sons, Todd and Bryant.

In 1971 Ellie, Joel, and their twins relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where their family lived until relocating to Blairsville in 2008.

Ellie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joel Peney, son Todd Peney, daughter in law Kristy Peney, grandson Matthew Peney and his wife Raphaela Aleman, granddaughter Morgan Peney, and brother Bill Potter as well as numerous family and friends who loved her.

Ellie was preceded in death by her son, Bryant Peney, and her brother, Stan Novak.

Ellie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who’s smile and laugh would light up the room. She had a caring heart and incredible sense of humor.

Ellie was a talented florist, owning her own business in Tamarac, Florida before retiring and moving to Blairsville. She was incredibly creative, crafting the flower arrangements for her son Todd’s wedding, making the corsages and boutonnieres her grandson and daughter in law’s prom, and sewing and knitting with her granddaughter Morgan.

She was a faithful member of Fellowship of the Hills Church in Blairsville, volunteering her time in the community wherever it was needed. Ellie offered unending love to everyone around her and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 7 2023 from 2:00-5:00 with a service at 5:00 at the funeral home.

We will be gathering at Fellowship of the Hills Church immediately after the service to remember and celebrate Ellie. Food will be served. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ellie’s name to the Bryant Peney Memorial Scholarship Fund.
