Elmer Rich Williamson, age 89, of Murphy, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at his home following an extented illness. Mr. Williamson was born Thursday, August 23, 1917 in Macon County, he was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church,and he was a WWII veterean. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria Sue Rogers, granddaughter, Diana Smith, grandson Scottie Goforth.
Survivors include: wife, Irene Ball Williamson, daughter, Viola Smith of Hayesville, son, Tommy & Renee Williamson of Clarkesville, daughter, Lucy Burch of Hayesville, son, Andy & Susan Williamson of Lincolnton, NC, daughter, Elsie Goforth of Swainboro, Ga, son, Elmer Williamson, Jr. of Murphy, seventeen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, step-daughter, Linda Hendershot of Murphy, step-daughter & husband, Revonda & Bobby Joe Moss of Hayesville, five step grandchildren , two step great grandchildren, one step great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 2:00p.m. from the Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ned Golden and Rev. Clark Moss, officiating. Music will be provided by Cody Family and the Shady Grove Church Chior. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Baptist Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Local Veterans organizations: Murphy VFW Post 10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post 96 and DAV Chapter 73 and Clay County VFW Post 6812
Serving as pallbearers are: Donnie Goforth, Richard Burch, Matthew Williamson, Rayburn Mason, Johnny Sheilds, Michael Sheilds, Gregg Traub and Eric Campbell, . Honorary pallbearers include: Grandsons.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9p.m., Friday, March 2.
