Ernest Duke

Ernest G. Duke, aged 87, of Tucker, Georgia, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025. Born on February 1, 1938, in Suffolk, Virginia, he lived a life dedicated to family, faith, and service.

Ernest dedicated over 40 years of his professional life to the banking industry, notably with the Federal Reserve, C&S, Nations Bank, and Bank of America, where he exemplified diligence and integrity.

Ernest was preceded in death by his father and mother, John Elton Duke and Ruby Hurdle Estes Duke, as well as his brother, John Duke.

However, beyond his professional accomplishments, Ernest was a deeply devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy Jones Duke; his daughter, Jennifer Duke Sullivan; his sons, Chris (Stephanie) Duke and Ray (Karen) Duke; and his cherished grandchildren, Grant Sullivan, Maggie Duke, Kinsley Sullivan, Lawson Sullivan, Sebastian Duke, Blaise Duke, Steven Duke, and Kai Duke. Ernest's family was his pride and joy, and he cherished the time spent with them.

A long-time member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church, Ernest contributed significantly through his role as a Deacon and an usher. He was actively involved in the Pathfinders/Seekers Class and devoted time to mission trips that took him to Honduras, Mexico, Appalachia, and Kentucky, sharing his compassion and kindness with those in need.

In addition to his spiritual and community involvement, Ernest was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. He had a passion for painting, bird watching, and caring for animals. His gentle spirit and dedication to nature brought joy to all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Smoke Rise Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia. The family will recieve friends at Smoke Rise Baptist Church from 1:00 PM until the service time at 2:00 PM.
