Esmer Ruth Long, age 91 of Morganton, passed away June 9, 2012 at her home. Esmer was born March 27, 1921 in Gilmer County, GA to the late Louis Clifford Ralston and Millie M. Long Ralston. A member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by husband, Eugene Floyd Long and son, Larry Long and son-in-law Sam Anderson. She loved listening to gospel music, sewing and canning her vegetables.
Survivors include: sons, David (Doris) Long, Edwin (Janice) Long, Daniel (Wanda) Long, and Ernest (Patricia) Long; daughters, Charlotte Anderson, Ramona (Pete) Jones, Loretta (Roger) Owensby, and Sharon Long; sisters, Lois Deems, Ester Hefner, and Shirley Ellis. Also 25 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday June 12, 2012 at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Reverends Sanford Fountain and Bobby Baker officiating. Music provided by David Anderson and the church choir. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers included Scott Long, Michael Long, James Jones, Gary Long, Billy Long and Phillip Owensby. Honorary pallbearers were all of her grandchildren.
