Estella Barnett

Estella Robinson "Tubby" Crowder Barnett, age 85, of Murphy, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, Georgia. Mrs. Barnett was born to the late Jessie Robinson and Esther McCray Robinson on April 18, 1940 in Clay County, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Shane; sisters, Glades, Wanda, and Fay; brother, Carlton, and daughter in law, Peggy Robinson. She is survived by her husband, Blaine Barnett; sons, Dwight of Marble, NC, Dwayne "Peanut" of Hayesville, NC, Darryle (Mickie) of Concord, NC, and Jody, of Hayesville, NC; daughters, Kim of Charottlesville, VA, and Carla of Murphy, NC; step children, Stephanie, and Caroline; sisters, Geneva (Dallas), Gaye (Mike), Jan (Cranvel), and brother, Edwin "Eddie". She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild with another great great grandchild on the way.

Estella, "Tubby", never met a stranger. She was always offering a kind word and a contagious smile to others she came in contact with in life. She was always looking to find the good in others. Mrs. Barnett was a strong woman of independence, yet she had a loving and giving heart. She sought to serve others in their time of need as a caretaker throughout her life. "Tubby" raised seven children, three grandchildren, and was like a mom to many more. She could delight you with your delicious meals and cooking skills, both motivated and prepared with love.

Funeral services are scheduled to be conducted on Friday, January 2, 2026 at 2 P.M. in the chapel of the Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home in Murphy, NC with Pastor Luke Chapman, Minister Cranvel Ledford and Minister Dallas Crowder officiating. Music will be provided by Diane Crowder. The following will be serving as pallbearers: Dustin Sanders, Matthew Crowder, Ethan Crowder, Jordan Rogers, Michael Crowder, and Kenny Crowder. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Sosebee and Chris Simmons. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Fires Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends in a time of visitation on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 12 noon until the 2 P.M. funeral service hour at the Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home in Murphy, NC.

Flowers are being accepted or in lieu of flowers donations in Mrs. Barnett's memory can be made to the cemetery fund of the Fires Creek Baptist Church.
