Eva Virginia Hemphill

May 2, 1928 — February 7, 2024

Mrs. Eva Virginia Hemphill, age 95, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024 peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Hemphill was born on May 2nd, 1928 in Hayesville, North Carolina, the daughter of the late William H. Burrell and the late Myrtle Davenport Daniel. She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Eva was a darling lady, always sharing the kindest words. Although being small in body, she loved hugely with her pure heart. She never wavered from her trusting in the almighty hand of God; Mrs. Eva feared the Lord and spoke with Him daily, for Jesus was truly her best friend. She perpetually prayed persistently for her family and friends, her community, those she knew, and those she loved. Living so contently with such a beautiful God given life, she rarely left her little brick home on Gum Log Road. She tirelessly worked willingly day in and day out as a homemaker, baking her fluffy homemade biscuits and concocting her “world famous” banana pudding, and never allowing for any soul who entered the door to leave without a full belly and smile on their face.

Mrs. Eva wore strength and honor as her clothing without a doubt, raising five rough and tough boys. She illustrated such a poise and patience while instilling biblical values in each of their growing minds to pass down through generations: to the grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she utterly adored and unconditionally loved. She admired God’s beautiful creation, especially flowers, avidly planting and gardening in her younger years, transitioning to front porch sitting and gazing in her latter years. Mrs. Eva was genuine and full of joy; she will forever be known for her love of gospel music, tuning into the radio daily and requesting her favorite songs to be played and sang by her grandchildren.

Mrs. Eva married the love of her life, Conda Hemphill, at just fifteen years old on May 29th, 1943. Together they built and cherished a beautiful family and life for almost 73 years.

Mrs. Eva stood firm on the foundation of her faith in Jesus, serving the Lord as a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church for many years. Although never possessing a drivers license, she attended church consistently teaching Sunday school, contributing to bible schools, keeping the church building clean and ready for meeting, and fashioning the most delectable foods for homecoming Sundays. As a young girl, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior on the front steps of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and her life revolved around honoring, serving, and living for the one who paid it all on Calvary.

Any and all who knew her, loved her, and Mrs. Eva will be terribly missed.

Mrs. Eva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Conda Casteel Hemphill, her daughter, Barbara Patricia Hemphill, and her daughter-in-law, Darlene Hemphill, sisters Sue Davenport and Bonita Cantrell. Surviving her are her five sons and daughter-in-laws: Franklin and Gail Hemphill, Charles and Brenda Hemphill, Danny and Judy Hemphill, David Hemphill, and Kenneth “Spud” and Rita Hemphill; her grandchildren: Dianne Mosley, Bruce Hemphill, Chasity (Jack) Cochran, Travis (Kayla) Hemphill, Lacey (Jayson) Rothe, Bridget (Koty) Queen, Brittany (Levi) Bryant, Brianna Hemphill, and Kendon Hemphill; sisters: Christine Thompson and Barbara Garnto; her step-grandchildren: Todd (Hayley) Rector, Brandon Rector, and Josh (Jamie) Rector; her great-grandchildren: Mitch Mosley, Michaela Mosley, Matthew Mosley, Sadie Cochran, Noa Rothe, and Everett Queen. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
