Gaines Beaty

June 9, 1927 — November 26, 2022

Mr. Gaines Hyatt Beaty, age 95, of Blairsville, GA passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at his home after an extended illness. He was born in Albertville, Alabama to the late Tillman Marion Beaty and Martha Estella Rives Smith Beaty. He was also predeceased by brother, Dennis Beal Beaty, and half-brother, Hoyves Loyal Smith.

Gaines served his country in both the U.S. Navy and Army, having been drafted at the end of WWII and again at the start of the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of corporal in the military police. His time in service instilled a love of travel. A printer by trade, at one point he moved his family to Australia to experience life there. Other homes included Chicago, Illinois; Lilburn, Georgia; Resaca, Georgia; and Orlando, Florida.

Gaines found the North Georgia mountains in retirement and was a 25-year resident of Union County. He loved riding his tractor, working around the house and property, listening to fine music, reading, and watching Alabama football - Roll Tide! He especially enjoyed getting out and meeting people - he had a keen sense of humor and never met a stranger! Strong in the faith, Gaines loved our Father God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit with all his heart.

Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Geneva Elizabeth Brock Beaty, son Keith L. Beaty, daughter-in-law Karen Etheridge Beaty, and nephew Gary Beaty and his wife Debbie. The family wishes to thank the staff of Regency Hospice for their care and compassion during this difficult time.

A military funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 7th, at 1:00pm at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, with Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of arrangements. You may view the service via live stream, sign the guest register, and send condolences at www.cochranfuneralhomes.com.
