Garry Hughes

Garry Hughes, a man who was deeply loved and always loving, entered into the presence of his Lord Jesus on July 14, 2026, following a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Surrounded by his family, he passed peacefully as they shared memories, watched a slideshow, laughed, cried, sang, and prayed together.

Garry was a man of deep integrity whose daily life reflected humility, gentleness, kindness, and an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. He faithfully served his family, friends, church, community, and business associates with grace and compassion. A devoted husband, he cherished his wife of 53 years, Terre. He was an engaging and present father, a fun and loving grandfather, a caring brother, and a loyal friend. His greatest joys were spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren—singing and worshiping together, traveling, golfing, camping, boating, and hosting family gatherings. He loved celebrating milestones and pulling playful pranks on his kids and grandkids.

Even through the challenges of ALS, Garry displayed remarkable courage, humor, determination, and perseverance. Though his body weakened, his faith, kindness, and joyful spirit never wavered. His ministry took many forms over the years—from children to premarital couples to the elderly—as he shared God’s love and taught His Word. He inspired countless people, including family, friends, caregivers, and medical professionals, through his contagious joy, positivity, and gracious love.

A lifelong lover of art, Garry built a distinguished career helping people bring beauty and art into their homes. He was deeply respected by his colleagues and clients alike for his honesty, expertise, and genuine care. His well-earned reputation for integrity and excellence earned him the admiration and trust of many in the business world, where he formed countless meaningful, long-lasting relationships.

Garry leaves behind a large family and many friends who will forever cherish his legacy of faith, love, joy, humility, and perseverance. He is survived by his beloved wife, Terre; his three children and their spouses; his cherished grandchildren; his siblings and their families; and many dear extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by loved ones who now welcome him into eternity.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church in Hiawassee, Georgia. Family and friends are invited to gather in thanksgiving for Garry’s life, to worship together, and to celebrate the eternal hope found in Jesus Christ.

Though our hearts grieve his absence, we rejoice that Garry is now whole, healed, and at peace in the presence of his Savior. His life beautifully echoes the words of 2 Timothy 4:7–8:

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness..."

Garry’s race is finished. His faith has become sight. And the most fun man on earth—who made so many laugh and feel deeply loved—leaves a legacy that will continue for generations.
