Guy Hastings Rogers

March 31, 1936 — October 1, 2025

Ellijay, GA

Guy Hastings Rogers, age 89, of Ellijay, Georgia passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 after battling Parkinson’s Disease for 28 years. Guy was born March 31, 1936, in South Miami, Florida to Earl Hastings and Mary Lena Rogers.

Born and raised in South Miami, Guy attended Sunset Elementary and Coral Gables High School. Due to his love of country he proudly joined the U. S. Navy serving during the Korean campaign. He attended basic training in San Diego and was later stationed in Whidbey Island WA, Kodiak AK, and Guam, serving as a certified electrician on planes. After four years of dedicated service he was transferred to the Naval Reserves and then honorably discharged. He then returned to Miami with his wife Sonia where they began their family, having three children: Melanie, Melinda, and Guy Jr. (Buddy). He worked with Florida Power and Light for many years before moving to Mineral Bluff, GA with his family. Guy acquired Chancey’s Grocery in Mineral Bluff and later converted it to The Dixie Chicken Restaurant. Many people enjoyed “Buddy’s” chicken and taters! After leaving the restaurant business, he became a title examiner working with multiple attorneys across North GA. Eventually Guy remarried Ada and settled in Ellijay with their daughter Sarah. He later retired from the office of Attorney Cary Cox in Blairsville and from his daily visits to the Rexall Pharmacy for a dime cup of coffee and deep conversations with his cronies! Throughout his life, Guy profoundly loved his children and family and always appreciated each opportunity given to spend time with them-every visit, every call, every card, every act of love filled his heart. To him, his greatest and proudest accomplishment was his children.

Guy’s love of sports often found him bowling, playing softball, watching football of his beloved Miami Hurricanes and baseball with the Atlanta Braves, or on the course enjoying a good round of golf! One of his golfing highlights was attending the Masters Tournament with his good friend Bradley and son Buddy. One of his passions was a deep love for music! Often he could be heard humming, singing, or even yodeling all kinds of songs. His music repertoire spanned the decades with his favorite genre always being southern gospel.

Above all his greatest passion was his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Often, Guy could be heard singing hymns of praise and worship. Throughout the most difficult times in his life he always kept a song of praise on his lips-never complaining, simply worshiping. He was a member of World Harvest Church North. The joy of the Lord was Guy’s strength and it always showed through his smile. At the age of 16, Guy “met the master and he was never the same again”. Before departing Guy was asked what advice he would share with humanity and without hesitation, he responded, “Put Jesus first in your life!”. He was just a great Guy and will be forever loved and profoundly missed.

Guy was preceded in death by his father, Earl Hastings Rogers; mother, Mary Lena Connor Rogers; sister Dorothy Gibbs; sister Earlene Haswell; grandchildren Daphne McLaughlin and Sydnie Grace Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ada Rogers; daughters, Melanie (Jamie) Boyle of Mineral Bluff, GA; Melinda (Anthony) Jones of Morganton, GA; Sarah Rogers of Atlanta, GA; and son, Guy "Buddy" (Christine) Rogers, Jr. of Mineral Bluff, GA; step-brother, Jens (Jennie) Hansen of Hercules, CA; grandchildren, Nathan Callihan, Dr. Natalie McLaughlin, Emily Gray, Conner Jones, Andrew Jones, Garrett Rogers, and Wyatt Rogers; great-grandchildren, Malachy Callihan, Carson Callihan, Miley Jane Gray, Sawyer Gray, Lila Gabel, Weston Jones, and Theodora Jones; great-great grandchild, Kyler Callihan; sister-in-laws, Martha Smith, Elizabeth Long, and Lydia Long of Mineral BLuff, GA, and Mary Chamberlain of Chattanooga, TN; brother-in-laws, Danny (Cindy) Dockery of Mineral Bluff, GA and Pastor Asa Dockery of Hiawassee, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
