Homer Arrowood

Homer Arrowood, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, departed this world on August 26, 2023, to be with his Heavenly Father. He was born on May 30, 1949, in Hiawassee, Georgia to the late Homer Vaughn Arrowood and Wanda McClure Arrowood Woody. Homer's passing leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched.

Homer dedicated many years of his life to serving others as a maintenance foreman with the Georgia Department of Transportation. His hard work and dedication were evident in every project he took on, earning him the respect and admiration of both colleagues and friends. Even in retirement, Homer's commitment to excellence remained an inspiration to all who knew him. He served as a deacon at Philadelphia Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and shooting, as well as coaching various sports. Of all of his many titles, Papa and Dad were his favorite.

Homer's passing is deeply mourned by his loving wife Carol Nix Arrowood, as well as his devoted sons Derrick (Amy) Arrowood and Kenneth (Sheila) Arrowood. He was blessed with five grandchildren: Stephanie (Lew) Bailey, Davey (Bethany) Arrowood, Lydia (Josh) Owenby, Mollie Arrowood, and Cory Willis. In addition to his grandchildren, Homer had the joy of being a great-grandfather to Fletcher Bailey, Theo Arrowood, Gideon Owenby, and Laikyn Willis. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Linda Thompson and Evelyn Russell; brother-in-law, James "Bo" Nix; brothers, Danny Arrowood, Barry Woody, and Marvin Woody; and sisters, Elaine Woody Truelove and Brenda Woody Hardwood.

Homer Arrowood will forever be remembered for his generosity, humility, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His warm smile and gentle nature lit up every room he entered, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. He possessed a unique ability to make others feel valued and loved, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.

Services honoring Homer's life will be held at Cochran Funeral Home & Crematory of Blairsville located at 41 Hunt-Martin St, Blairsville, GA 30512. Visitation will take place on Monday, August 28, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 2:00 PM. Rev. Chad Underwood and Robby Roxbury will officiate. Special music provided by Evan Hughes and Merle Fortenberry. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Randy Harkins, Scott Adams, Wayne Thompson, Jordan Thompson, Michael Nix, and Hunter Nix. Burial will be in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Homer's memory to Gideon's International. We can honor his memory by continuing the legacy of love and compassion he so passionately embraced.
