Inez Moore Pickelsimer

Apr 25, 1934 — Sep 30, 2026

Barbara Inez Moore Picklesimer went to be with her Savior on September 30, 2026. Inez was born on April 25,1934 to the late Richard Marson Moore and Pearl Moore of Murphy, North Carolina. Born into a large and loving family settled in a mountain valley lush with creeks and wildflowers, Inez grew up in the close-knit Peachtree community of Murphy.

Inez was a 1953 graduate of Murphy High School—she continued her education at Dickinson Secretarial School in Atlanta GA in the late 1950's. Inez worked at the Bell South telephone company as an operator before her marriage to Tom Picklesimer of Copper Hill, TN. They were married on August 18, 1963. Tom’s work in insurance sales led to their eventual residence in Atlanta GA, Springfield, MO, Charlotte NC, and Asheville NC before returning to their forever home in the Peachtree community in 1976. They built a house in the same verdant valley in which Inez lived as a child and were surrounded by her parents, sisters, brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews. She worked for the Town of Murphy for a time, and Inez’s innate gregarious nature eventually led her to become a door greeter at the local Wal-Mart for many years where she made countless friends.

Inez was a longtime member of Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church where she enjoyed attending Sunday School, church services, and women’s groups. Inez and Tom were married 56 years before his death in 2019. The many cities they made their home in as well as their widespread early travels led to her vast and varied interests and hobbies which included ballroom dancing, piano playing, badminton sparring, and voracious reading. She enjoyed tending to her beautiful home and garden and loved seeing the flowers that grew because of her loving care. She was a lifelong beauty both inside and out and was never without her signature jewelry and lipstick.

Her family will dearly remember her presence as she was an active listener and loved hearing about their daily lives, work, and schooling. She always greeted family with tight hugs and warm embraces. Her home was a frequent spot of fun for the youngest members of the family who sledded on her large backyard hill; she was often seen at play with them for a game of badminton or croquette. She was attune to everyone’s lives; despite the large number of her nieces and nephews, she could always tell you about their recent accomplishments and interests. Like her sisters, she had a quick wit and was often seen laughing and simply enjoying life.

Inez was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Picklesimer; mother Pearl Moore, father Richard Marson Moore; brothers R.M., Ferd, Wayne, and Luke Moore all of the Peachtree Community in Murphy, NC as well as sisters Grace Galloway, Allie Christopher, and Vallie Houston all of Epworth, Georgia, and sisters Wilma Leatherwood and Frances Gulley of Murphy, NC.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Parris Ann Moore and brother-in-law Bobby Leatherwood of Murphy, NC and a multitude of nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews. The family would like to especially thank Clay County Care and Rehabilitation for the excellent care and love they have shown her over the past four years.

Inez’s service will be at Cochran McDaniel Funeral Home on Saturday, October 3rd with visitation from 12:30 to 2:00 and funeral beginning at 2:00. Officiants are Rev. Noah Crowe and Dr. Chester Jones, and music will be provided by Mr. Arnold Matthews. Graveside service will follow the funeral at Peachtree Memorial Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Inez to Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church.
