Rev. Jack Phillip Buchanan

The Reverend Jack Phillip Buchanan, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 17, 2026, at the age of 81. He was born on November 2, 1944, in Morganton, Georgia, to Clyde and Alma Pruitt Buchanan. Jack dedicated his life to the service of others, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Jack worked in the mines at the Tennessee Copper Company for many years and was known as “Mr. Clean.” He also worked several other jobs throughout his career and was loved by all who knew him. His greatest calling was that of a pastor and preacher of the gospel. Jack was a devoted minister who served as pastor for Midway Baptist Church, Welcome Hill Baptist #2, and served as a Chaplain for the McCaysville Police Department. He enjoyed preaching and attending revivals and camp meetings; his commitment to his calling was matched only by his deep love for his family.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Sybil Tipton, Cecil Buchanan, James Buchanan, Gary Buchanan, Shirley Seabolt, Harold Buchanan, and Danny Buchanan.

Jack was survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Martha Cash Buchanan; daughter, Rebecca (Todd) Towe; and granddaughter, Morgan Rhodes. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Jack was known for his meticulous nature and his love of working in the yard. He took great joy in his “spit-shine” shoes and was often seen wearing a hat from his extensive collection. Jack also enjoyed classic cars, old Western films and Hardee’s breakfast trips.

The funeral service will be held at Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home, Blue Ridge Chapel at 5:00 PM on August 21, 2026, with Rev. Matthew McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery in Copperhill, Tennessee. The following gentlemen will serve as Pallbearers: Todd Towe, Jason Deal, Sonny Long, Mason McDaniel, and Marshall McDaniel.

Family will receive friends prior to the service from 3:00PM - 5:00 PM on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home, Blue Ridge Chapel.
