James Scofield Blair, 77, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on June 28, 1948, he was raised in Copperhill, Tennessee.
In 1969, Jim married the love of his life, Diane, and together they shared more than five decades of devotion, partnership, and family.
A plain talker who told it like it was, Jim lived with tenacity, determination and a strong sense of decency. Over the years, he handcrafted more than 1,300 teddy bears under the name Blair’s Bears, sharing them at craft fairs throughout the region. He had a keen eye for a good deal and loved the thrill of finding hidden treasures. He also enjoyed collecting antiques and operated three booths in local antique stores, where he passed along his finds to others who shared his appreciation for history and character. A devoted NASCAR fan, Jim rarely missed a race and was especially loyal to Jeff Gordon, cheering him on throughout his career.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; two daughters, Melissa Gosling (husband Paul Gosling) and Christina Dombrowski (husband Kurt Dombrowski); grandchildren Emma Gosling, Matt Dombrowski (Wife Whitney), and Austin Dombrowski (wife Danni); and great-granddaughter Graycin.
Jim will be remembered for his honesty, his perseverance, and his deep love for family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Memorial Service will be Sunday September 7, 2025 at 4:00 PM at Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home, McCaysville Chapel, with Rev. Matthew McDaniel officiating.
