James Chan Buchanan, age 75, passed away on July 9, 2026, in Cumming, Georgia. James was born on September 9, 1950, in Copperhill, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his birth mother, Mary Parris West; at home parents, Rev. Stanton and Effie Queen Parris; siblings, David and Chris West.
He is survived by sister, Andrea Grisham; brother, Mike West, cousin Tim (Beth) Towe; and former spouse, Janis Kaylor. Many other extended family and friends also survive.
Chan loved life and lived it well. He was a dedicated fan of both the Atlanta Braves and the Atlanta Falcons. His canine companions were very special to him. Among them was a dog named Bobbi that was a constant companion with him. He maintained a strong work ethic throughout his life. Chan worked for Print Pack as a typesetter for 34 years. One of his favorite activities was a outing for a meal at one of his favorite restaurants. He will be greatly missed.
At Chan's request, no services will be held and a private interment will take place at the Pan-Will Cemetery at a later date.
