Mr. James Wesley Patterson, age 90, of Blue Ridge, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at Pruett Health Care in Blue Ridge. He was born in the Rock Creek Community of Gilmer County on January 1, 1932, to the late Bill and Vada Watkins Patterson; James was a kind and humble man who was always willing to help others. He was a member of Cherrylog Baptist Church and had worked several jobs throughout his life, but he most enjoyed working in the woods, cutting timber. James enjoyed camping, fishing, and being on the lake. He had an immense love for all his family and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Cruse Patterson; father and mother, Bill and Vada Patterson; sister, Jewell Dale; brothers, Johnny Patterson and Walter Patterson.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-laws Doris and Phillip Towe, Joan and Jim Holland, Patty and Mike Green, and daughter Barbara Smith. Sisters Lois Worley, Edith Norton, Evelyn Gilliland, and Shirley Boatfield, a brother Lewis Patterson; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren. One great-great-grandson, a special friend Edith Sisson, and God-daughter Zoey McDaris. A host of wonderful friends and family also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 26, at 3:00 PM from the chapel of the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. Jackie Cochran officiating. Interment will follow in the Rock Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The following grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Nathan Tipton, Bryan Tipton, Drew Green, Zachary Green, Brandon Smith, and David Towe.
The family will receive friends at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
