Janice Gertrude Burger, age 91, of Epworth, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in Epworth, GA.. Janice was born September 27, 1933, in Oak Hill, FL to Kit Carson Ritchie Sr. and Hazel Ash Ritchie.
Janice Ritchie married Jimmie Reed Burger of McCaysville, Ga on January 22, 1954. They met when she visited her mother Hazel's home place near McCaysville. She was born in Oak Hill, FL. and went to school in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Janice was a lifelong member of the First United Method Church of Copperhill TN. and loved her church family dearly. She was a devoted mother to Mark and Jan until they were older, and she started a career of her own. She began a banking career and loved serving her community and more importantly she had coworkers that became so dear to her and her lifelong friends. She was also very blessed to have close friends from the very beginning of her marriage and life in McCaysville that spanned over 60 years and more. All of them know who they are. She loved her family and is survived by Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews and Cousins and she loved them all. She loved her family well, near and far, and all of those that proceeded her in death. She stayed in her beloved home and sanctuary of 71 years until her eternal life began.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Jammie Reed Burger; sister, Edna Ridley; brothers, Kit Carson Ritchie Jr. and Tyre A. "Pete" Ritchie.
She is survived by her son, Mark (Sandie) Burger; daughter, Jan (Lee) Whatley; grandchildren, Sarah Burger Swain and David Lee Whatley; and great-grandchildren, Kirsten Grace Swain, Carter Reed Swain, and Jackson Potts-Whatley.
Graveside Service, on Saturday August 9, 2025 at 3:00 PM from Crestlawn Cemetery with Rev. Larry Russell and Rev. Buddy Butler officiating.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Terry Johnson, Jonathan Farmer, Jordan Farmer, Todd Dilbeck, Jim Quintrell, and Rene Bidez.
Honorary pallbearers: The girls from The Home Bank.
Interment will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery in Copperhill, TN..
