It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Jerry Eugene Angel Jr., age 66, of Epworth, Georgia. Jerry left us on Saturday, September 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of his hometown.
Born on October 18, 1958, in Copperhill, Tennessee, Jerry was the son of Jerry Eugene Angel Sr. and the late Phyllis Christine Angel. He grew up in this community, graduating from West Fannin in 1976 and later attending Georgia State University.
Jerry’s life was all about family and friends. He was a devoted husband to Bonnie for 36 wonderful years, a proud father to Stephen, Michael, and the late Jennifer Nicole, and the beloved “Guy Guy” to his 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was also a cherished brother, son, and friend to so many.
After working for Kmart and Big Lots, Jerry moved back home in 1989 to be closer to his kids and to run Papa’s Pizza in Blue Ridge for the next 23 years. If you ever stopped by, you probably got more than just a slice—you got a story, a laugh, and maybe a new friend. Jerry had a way of making everyone feel welcome.
He was a longtime member of Epworth First Baptist Church and was always there to lend a hand or a listening ear. After retiring, Jerry dedicated himself to his family, rarely missing a game, concert, or school event for his children and grandchildren. He was the guy cheering the loudest, snapping pictures, and making everyone smile. If you needed someone to chaperone a field trip or show up for a school lunch, Jerry was your guy—literally, everyone’s “Guy Guy,” whether or not you shared his last name.
Jerry also became a familiar face at math conferences all over Georgia and beyond, tagging along with Bonnie. He was affectionately known as the “hotel boy,” always helping out, chatting with everyone, and making adventures out of every trip, especially when grandkids were in tow.
And if you ever talked football with Jerry, you knew he bled orange for the Tennessee Volunteers. He could have you rooting for UT before you realized what happened.
Jerry leaves behind his wife Bonnie; his father, Jerry Eugene Angel Sr. and wife Angela Angel; his sons, Stephen Douglas Angel and Michael James Angel; his sister, Lisa Renee Angel; his brothers, Anthony Dell Angel and Bryan Keith Angel; his grandchildren Kaylee (Parker) Brown, Keelah (Nathan) Stanley, Keaden Twiggs, Riley Angel, Isaiah Angel, Brodey Angel, Lucas Angel, Della Herrington, Avrey Angel, Olivia Angel, and Amelia Herrington; his great-grandchildren, Ellie Brown, Gunner Brown, and Owen Stanley; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
We’ll gather to remember Jerry on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Homes McCaysville Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Tom Jordan leading the service. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM the same day. Jerry will be laid to rest at Epworth First Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Dell Angel, Bryan Keith Angel, Justin Angel, Kaeden Twiggs, Riley Angel, Isaiah Angel, Brodey Angel, and Avrey Angel.
