John A. Wimpey

Mr. John A. Wimpey, of Hapeville, passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in Emory Midtown Hospital in Atlanta following a brief illness. Mr. Wimpey was born on March 16, 1927 in Blairsville, GA, the son of the late James L. Wimpey and Thanie Cook Wimpey. He was retired as the Adult Education Director for the Georgia Department of Education, and was an active member of the Hapeville First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, LeAnn Wimpey Hulsey; brothers, Pat Wimpey, Watson Wimpey, and James Wimpey; and a sister, Emma Linda Wimpey Dyer. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Leta Shelby Wimpey; a sister, Dessie Wimpey Ledford of Blairsville; son-in-law, Bob Hulsey, Roswell; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 25th at Hapeville First Baptist Church, with remains in state at 10 a.m. Dr. Bill Lacy and Dr. Bob Wiley will officiate. The body will lie in state at Old Liberty Baptist Church, 74 John England Rd., Blairsville, GA 30512, from 3 until the graveside service at 3:30 p.m. Donehoo-Lewis Funeral Home, Hapeville.
