Mr. John Clifford “J.C.” Foster, a devoted husband, father, and lifelong resident of Union County, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 11, 2025, at the age of 76. He passed away peacefully in his Blairsville home on Highway 325, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after a period of declining health.
John was born in Blairsville on July 29, 1949, to the late Olen and Ethel (Tilson) Foster. He grew up with a deep love for the North Georgia mountains, a passion that would always draw him back home, no matter where his life’s journey took him. He answered the call to serve his country with pride, fulfilling his duty in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His service included deployments to Germany and nearby Fort Benning, Fort Carson, and the Ranger Camp in Dahlonega. Although he served his nation faithfully, his heart always belonged to the mountains and the family he cherished.
He is survived by his loving wife of many years, Frances Jean (Hedgecock) Foster; his son, John Clifford Foster, Jr.; his daughter, Matilda “Tilly” Foster; his beloved grandson, John-Mark Foster; and his sister, Patsy Hedgecock, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers—Leonard Foster (and wife, Amelee) and Frank Foster (and wife, Grace)—and a sister, Gladys Thomas (and husband, Guy). As well as his brother-in-law, Harace Hedgecock, and nephew Billy Hedgecock.
The family invites friends and neighbors to join them for a time of visitation at Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home in Blairsville, GA, on Wednesday evening, August 13, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., to share memories and offer comfort.
A service to celebrate the life of John “J.C.” Foster will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in the Chapel of Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home, with Dr. Tom Jordan officiating.
Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Mount Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery, with military and masonic honors.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Wayne Hedgecock, Lucas Hedgecock, Cody Thomas, Mark Thomas, Bruce Lackey, and Michael Pimentel. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be John-Mark Foster, Preston Perren, Tanner Hamby, and Steve Young.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, the family kindly requests donations to help with final expenses.
