Joyce Johnson Martin

Mrs. Joyce Martin, Age 81, of Marble, passed away Tuesday evening in Flat Rock, NC, following an extended illness. She was born in Cherokee County on March 14, 1941, to the late Sheridan and Jerdie Mae Brooks Johnson.
She was a member of Little Brasstown Baptist Church; she had worked as a substitute teacher at Murphy high school, taught off-campus art for Tri-County Community College, and retired from Walmart after fifteen and half years of service.
Joyce was preceded in death by brothers Larry Russell and Douglas Johnson and her husband of fifty-two years, Gene Martin.
Survivors include her children Bernadette (Nathan) Wilcox, Lisa Martin, Russell (Andrea) Martin, and Miranda Martin. Thirteen grandchildren, Matthew, Dustin, Brandon, Chase, Noah, Eli, Daniel, Easton, Ashton, Autumn, Amanda, Destiny, and Jacey. Three great-grandchildren, Somer, Isaac, and Zayden. Sister Jennette Atkinson, nephews Lee and Jamie Atkinson, Ryan and Corey Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Friday evening, November 25, at 7:00 PM from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Aud Brown and Rev. Hoyt Brown officiating. The music will be by Joan Cabe.
Interment will follow Saturday at 11:00 AM from the Greenlawn Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home Friday from 5 to 7 PM.
