Leon Green

Leon Green, age 66, of Brasstown passed away Tuesday, July 29 at his home after a long battle with End-Stage Kidney Disease.

Leon was born on February 13, 1959 to the late Medford Green and Gladys Green. He was a 1977 graduate from Hayesville High School.

He was of the Baptist faith and attended Little Brasstown Baptist Church in his life and was a member of Old Fashioned Baptist Church.

He had a love for sports, especially basketball, which he coached for 24 years in local schools. He loved coaching and seeing the talents and accomplishments of his players shine on and off the court.

He was also a loving and devoted grandfather to his grandchildren who he enjoyed beyond measure.

He is survived by his daughter, Stacy Van Buskirk, and son-in-law, Nathaniel Van Buskirk, of Brasstown; his mother, Gladys Green of Brasstown; three grandchildren, Zella, Noah, and Remington Van Buskirk, of Brasstown; Siblings Sarah Sudderth of Brasstown, Richard Green of Brasstown, and Mary Henderson, and brother-in-law Darrell of Franklin; Nephew, Greg Sudderth of Brasstown, Nieces Jennifer Green of Winston-Salem, Vanessa Long of Franklin, Crystal Lovingood of Murphy, and Haley Henderson of Franklin.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 2 at 10 a.m. at Hickory Stand Methodist Church in Brasstown. Pastor Billy Rhodes will be officiating with singing led by George Van Buskirk.

Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Sudderth, Dexter Stiles, Mark Raper, Jerry Raper, Jake Rhodes and Josh Rhodes.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 1 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home in Peachtree.
