In Loving Memory of Linda Kay Wilcox

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Kay Wilcox, a cherished wife, beloved mother, loving grandmother, and career Registered Nurse. Linda peacefully departed this world on August 28, 2023, at her residence in Murphy, North Carolina. Her absence is deeply mourned by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Mrs. Wilcox was born in Hundred, West Virginia and was raised in Tampa, FL. Mrs. Wilcox was a graduate from Thomas R. Robinson High School and played in the marching band. She raised her family in Orlando and moved to Western North Carolina in 1993, where she was a member of Little Brasstown Baptist Church.
Linda was born on March 16, 1947, in Wetzel County, West Virginia, to parents whose love and guidance shaped her into the woman she became. She dedicated her life to her family and her noble profession in healthcare. Linda's passion for nursing led her to pursue a three-year nursing degree, graduating from Orange Memorial Hospital Nursing School in 1970. As an RN, she tirelessly cared for others, providing comfort and support when it was needed most. She held multiple head nurse titles in a variety of departments including starting the burn unit at Orange Memorial Hospital.
Beyond her nursing career, Linda was known for finding solace and joy through her gardening and planting endeavors. Her love for everything on two wheels was evident in her ownership of motorcycles, an exhilarating passion that brought her great delight. A lover of music, Linda also expressed her artistic side through playing the Glockenspiel in the marching band and playing the piano, gracing the world with beautiful melodies.
Linda embraced life's adventures with open arms, eagerly exploring the wonders of this country through her love for travel. Whether she was embarking on a road trip or discovering distant states, she found inspiration and happiness in the people and places she encountered life.
Left to cherish Linda's memory is her beloved husband of 53 years, Thomas Wilcox, who stood beside her through life's joys and challenges. She also leaves behind her children David Wollschlager, Leslie Wilcox, and Jennifer Wilcox-Wright, All of whom she loved dearly and her son in law Hugh Wright. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Dillon and Colton Wollschlager, and Caroline Madison Mears they were her pride and joy.
As we prepare to bid farewell to Linda, let us also celebrate her unforgettable. Funeral services and ceremonies to honor her memory will be held on September 1, 2023, with a visitation at 1:30 pm at Cochran Funeral Homes of Murphy. Following the visitation is the service at 2:00 pm at the chapel. Her kind and compassionate spirit will forever be remembered, and her memory will be treasured for all time.
Linda Kay Wilcox, you will be deeply missed, but your love and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew you. May you rest in eternal peace, knowing that your life's journey has touched the lives of many and will be forever cherished.
