Mary Edna "Edna" Collis

Mrs. Mary "Edna" Collis, age 94, of McCaysville, passed away May 24, 2012 at her home. Mrs. Collis was born April 13, 1918 in Fannin County, GA to George Herbert Bruce Neal and Malissa Stanley Neal. She was the oldest charter member of Kingtown Baptist Church, and was very involved in the community. Mrs. Collis enjoyed quilting, gardening, reading, and traveling. She had an adventurous spirit and a can do attitude, always open to learning new things. She was a people person who enjoyed being around others. Mrs. Collis was employed by Levi Strauss for more than twenty years as a supervisor.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Clifford J. Collis.

Survivors include: daughters, Rebecca Wade, Olivia Mitchell and Lisa Abdulla; grandson, Daniel Mitchell; granddaughters, Amanda Metcalfe and Malissa Abdulla and great granddaughter, Cassandra Metcalfe.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 27, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Kingtown Baptist Church with the Rev. Matthew McDaniel and Rev. Garry Parris officiating. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery. Music was provided by Vicki Whittenbarger, Mary Jo Towe and Connie Grindstaff. The gentlemen serving as Pallbearers were Jimmy Dale, Steve Dillard, Terry Long, Jonathan Metcalfe, Daniel Mitchell, Roy Neal, Leroy Rigdon and Eddie Strickland. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Douglas Akin, Tommy Callihan, Glen Collis, Kennon Fowler and Clifford Horton, and nephews and cousins.
