With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister, and grammie, Melissa Marie Dale Kelley, who left us on August 5, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on November 26, 1957, to the late Charles and Woodie Dale of Hiawassee, Georgia, Melissa was a woman of deep love, unwavering Christian devotion, and extraordinary kindness.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Lewis Kelley, and their children: Ian and Kristy Kelley, Megan and Matthew Jones, Ryan Kelley, and Christy and Duane Miller. Melissa was a cherished grammie to Jasper Kelley, Brent Kelley, Max Jones, Mylie Jones, and Trystin Miller—her pride and joy. She was a loving sister to Debbie and Mike Woody, and Justin and Danette Dale, who will forever hold her memory close.
Melissa dedicated 29 years of her life to teaching as a Special Education teacher in the Union County School System, a career she cherished deeply. Her compassion, patience, and commitment to her students left an indelible mark on everyone she taught. After retiring, she continued her passion for service by contributing her time and energy to the Ferst Foundation and the Retired Teachers Association, helping to improve the lives of others in her community Melissa’s life was marked by her boundless love for her family and friends. She was known for her nurturing spirit, always putting others first, and for creating a home filled with laughter, warmth, and grace. Whether it was through her thoughtful gestures, her infectious smile, or her endless support, she made a lasting impact on everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her infant son Branan Kelley, and her parents, Charles and Woodie Dale, whose love and guidance shaped the woman she became.
A Funeral Service will be held to celebrate her life on August 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at The House of Prayer, Blairsville, GA. Interment will follow in the Providence Methodist Church Cemetery in Blairsville, Georgia.
The family will recieve friends on August 7, 2025 from 6:00PM until 9:00 PM at Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home, Blairsville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity in her honor.
Melissa’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
