Nan J. Gerber, Blairsville, GA departed 10/20/26
I’m not a fan of standard obituaries—so, I will write my own.
I was born in Chicago, IL to Wm and Patricia Burklow, June 12, 1950. I had 3 older brothers. Mom and dad have passed as has my oldest brother Bill and youngest brother Bob. Brother Bruce lives in Algonquin, IL. We have numerous nieces and nephews in the Dundee, IL area.
My husband, Jim, AKA, Gerb, and I were married in 1972. Proud to be married over 50 years, as were both of our parents. We didn’t have any children but lived life vicariously through nieces, nephews and friends. Along the way we had wonderful family, friends and neighbors. We also had some great dogs that were like our kids.
We moved from Illinois to Florida and enjoyed the Sunshine State for 21 years before retiring to Blairsville, GA. Mountain living was wonderful. Jim and I started new hobbies. Jim, woodworking and stained glass for me.
In 2023 I was diagnosed with cancer. We battled it the best we could with a great team from Georgia Cancer Specialists. We are very lucky to have this facility in our little mountain town.
For Gerb: “When we get to the end of our lives together, the house we had, the cars we drove, the things we had won’t matter. What will matter, is that I had you and you had me.” From AmoMama Nostalgia
We’ve had the love and support of God, family and dear friends – and for this, I am thankful. I prefer that there is not a wake or memorial service. Just raise a glass to remember the good times we shared together.
In lieu of flowers, my favorite causes are: Local Animal Shelters, St. Jude’s, Stand up to Cancer and Cubs for a Cure.
