Nan Bush Gillon

Nan Bush Gillon of Union County, Georgia passed away peacefully on September 14, 2026, at her home after an extended illness. Born on February 10, 1948, in Soso, Mississippi, Nan was the youngest daughter of Verl and Fannie Grace Bush.


Nan graduated from West Jones High School in 1966. She worked as a Secretary and Office Manager for the State of Mississippi and Grenada County (MS) School System and later brought her organizational skills to independent agencies of State Farm Insurance Company. She retired in 2010.


In 1995, Nan married David Gillon in Grenada, Mississippi, and together they built an exemplary life full of love and shared purpose. Over their 31 years of marriage, they nurtured a family that Nan treasured deeply. She is survived by her devoted husband David, her beloved daughters Karen Chamberlain and Renee Chamberlain, her stepson Thaddeus Gieger, and one grandchild. Nan was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Cynthia.


Nan was an avid gardener and baker. Her gardens were a testament to her love for color in nature. Her baking, especially her cheesecakes, became a staple in the celebrations of family, neighbors, and friends, each cake a symbol of her love and care. She will be remembered for her unwavering love, her joyful spirit, and her ability to bring people together through her warmth and generosity. Her memory will be cherished by all whose lives she touched.


The family will hold a private ceremony to honor Nan's life and legacy. They express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers of Pruitt Health Hospice and Palliative Care for their exceptional support and assistance during Nan's final days. Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home & Crematory in Blairsville is in charge of arrangements.


In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Nan, reflecting the compassionate and giving spirit she so beautifully embodied.
