Peggy Laverne Deyton, age 76, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on June 17, 2026.
Born on April 5, 1950, in Villa Rica, Georgia, Peggy lived a life filled with love and creativity. She was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth touched everyone who knew her.
Peggy had a passion for gardening, genealogy research, writing, books, art, music, thrifting, sewing, and birdwatching. She found beauty in the simple things in life and shared that beauty with those around her through her creativity and loving spirit. Peggy was a fun-loving person, and you never knew what she would be getting into, even winning a spelling bee.
Peggy met the love of her life, Don Deyton, when she was 17 at Union County High School. They shared 55 years together, full of love, adventure, and raising 2 daughters, Cara and Kristen. Even though Peggy's last years were filled with her struggles with Parkinson's Disease, she faced them with determination and strength. Her faith in God and discovering His grace were a source of comfort to her.
Peggy pursued a degree in Art from Young Harris College. She worked for Union County in the commissioners' office until retiring in 2015. After retiring, Peggy enjoyed volunteering with the The Parkinson's Foundation and many other organizations.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Minnie Newman Price; father, Thomas Edward Price; and brother, Leon Price.
Peggy is survived by her devoted husband, Don Deyton of Blairsville, Georgia. Daughter Cara (Derrick) Varnell of Benbrook, Texas, and Kristen (Philip) Waters of Auburn, Georgia; granddaughters Natalie (Nick) King, Olivia Varnell, and Sophie Varnell; grandsons Eli and Nathan Waters; and mother-in-law Evelyn Deyton. Many other extended family and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held on July 11, 2026, at 4:00 pm, at Cochran McDaniel Funeral Home of Blairsville, GA with Wayne Fowler officiating.
The family will recieve friends on July 11, 2026, at Cochran McDaniel Funeral Home of Blairsville, GA, from 1:00-4:00 pm.
