Mr. Richard Leonard Glazier, Sr., age 74, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, October 15, 2007 at his home.
Mr. Glazier was born in Pinellas County, Florida, on Monday, August 6, 1933, a son of the late Mack Glazier and Florence Strickland Glazier. Richard graduated from St. Petersbug High School, and attended St. Petersburg Junior College. In Joliet, Illinois, he successfully completed the Laundry Operation and Management Courses at the American Institute of Laundering in 1955. Richard joined Soft Water Laundry, Inc. in August 1952, and became General Manager in 1965 and then, President in 1970. Mr. Glazier was Past President and Director of the Great St. Petersburg Cleaners and Launderers Association; Past President and Chairman of Board of Florida Institute of Laundering and Cleaning; Past Director of Southeastern Linen Supply Association; Past Director of Goodwill Industries; and Past Director of St. Petersburg Rotary Club. Richard had been active in the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce; Commerce Club of Pinellas County; American Institute of Laundering; National Institute of Dry Cleaning; Masonic Lodge #228; and was a life member of The National Rifle Association. Mr. Glazier had been a member of the Army National Guard. Before retiring to Blairsville, Richard was an active member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, where he held many leadership positions. Richard was a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church of Blairsville, and had served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. Besides his parents, he had been preceded in death by a brother, Mack Hiram Glazier.
Surviving family members include his loving wife of 55 years, Jean Rich Glazier, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and James Miller of Millington, Tennessee; son, Richard Glazier, Jr., of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen James and Lisa Glazier, of Arvada, Colorado; Eight grandsons: Eric Scott Glazier, Andrew James Miller, Chad Michael Glazier, Christopher Reid Miller, Matthew James Glazier, Nathaniel Marc Glazier, Jonathan Luke Glazier, and Joshua David Glazier; many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Blairsville with Dr. Fred Lodge and Rev. Danny Parris officiating. Burial will be in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family at the funeral home will be on Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.
