Roger Thyrel Reynolds

March 17, 1941 — April 15, 2026

Morganton

Roger T. Reynolds, 85, of Morganton, GA, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, at his home, surrounded by family.  He was born March 17, 1941, in Mattoon, Illinois, the son of the late Thomas Edmond Reynolds and Vera Imogene (Rentfro) Reynolds.

Roger was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He shared 35 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Bonnie (Logan) Reynolds, building a life centered on faith, family and enduring commitment. He was an active member of the Living Church of God.

He proudly served in the United States Navy, both active duty and reserve, from 1958 to 1964. During that time he served aboard the USS Proteus during the Cuban Missile Crisis and spent a memorable year stationed in Scotland.

Roger later earned an Associate's Degree in Accounting from Sangamon State University and maintained a lifelong interest in technology.

He had a sharp mechanical mind and in his younger years enjoyed working on cars and motors. He also found great enjoyment in bluegrass music and enjoyed learning to play the five-string banjo, even as it challenged him.  Roger loved games of all kinds - chess, pool and card and board games - and was always ready to join in.  His analytical nature was balanced by a dry sense of humor and a well-trained remark that those close to him will always remember.

Roger's greatest legacy is his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie (Logan) Reynolds of Morganton, GA.  His children Lisa Colbath and her husband Paul of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Jason Reynolds of Pontiac, Illinois, preceded in death by his wife Amanda. Rebekah Davis and her husband Blair of Morganton, GA. James Daniel and his sister Cindy Shull and her husband Alfred of Auburn, Illinois; along with ten grandchildren, ten great-granchildren, and many other family members and friends.

Roger will be remembered as a principled and steady man - guided by a strong sense of what was right. He was calm and measured, not easily drawn into conflict, and carried a quiet strength that brought steadiness to those around him, especially his famiy.

A celebration of Roger's life will be held locally at a later date.  Details will be announced.
