Ronald Gerald Gratton
May 11, 1944 – May 21, 2026
Ronald Gerald Gratton, lovingly known as Ron, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on May 11, 1944, in Grand Bend, Canada, Ron lived there until relocating to Florida around 1964.
At the age of 11, Ron accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, a faith that guided and sustained him throughout his life until the Lord called him home on Thursday.
During his years in Florida, Ron worked a variety of jobs before partnering with his father to start Northside Propane. He was also instrumental in building and operating Camp Horizon in Leesburg, Florida, a youth camp that touched many lives. In 1980, after selling the business, Ron moved to Waynesville, North Carolina, where he served as Water and Sewer Superintendent. He later owned and operated Ron’s Dozier Business and R & M Contracting.
Ron had a wide range of interests and passions. He was an avid NASCAR fan and worked with Dale Jarrett Racing for several years. After relocating to Blairsville, Georgia, in 2008, he rarely missed watching a Braves game and proudly followed all 162 games whenever possible. He also dedicated time to the Young Harris College golf programs, assisting both the men’s and women’s teams alongside his step son, Caleb Kelley, serving as bus driver, assistant coach, and beloved “Team Papaw.”
Throughout his years in Blairsville, Ron supervised and inspected numerous local projects. He and his wife, Janice, made a wonderful team, sharing a passion for remodeling and refurbishing homes. Ron believed in working hard and enjoying life fully.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald F. Gratton and Olive (Webb) Gratton.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Janice, whom he married in 2008. She was his best friend, partner, love of his life, caretaker, and greatest cheerleader. He is also survived by his son,
Michael (Jackie) Gratton of Arden, North Carolina; daughter, Ronda (Michael) Goodwin of Satellite Beach, Florida; and son, Travis Jackson of Mount Airy, North Carolina.
Ron also leaves behind his stepchildren, Matthew Mashburn, Adam (Amanda) Mashburn, and Caleb Kelley. His cherished grandchildren include Carson Gratton, Taylor Owens, Nicholas (Anna Clair) Owens, and Chloe, Max, and Iris Mashburn. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Myla Gratton, Penelope Owens, and Lucille Owens.
He is further survived by his sister, Marilyn Schenk of Tampa, Florida; brothers Bob (Chris) Gratton of Homosassa, Florida, and Paul (Andrea) Gratton of Lutz, Florida; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Ron’s faith and devotion to his family were his greatest accomplishments and the foundation of his life. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
