Shane Brent Montgomery (Coach Shane)

Left this life May 4th and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior JESUS CHRIST. Shane is the son of Brent and Patti Howard Montgomery, the grandson of the late Coach Raymond and Mozelle Montgomery, the late James and Jean Callihan the late Charles and Patricia Howard. Shane has one surviving sister Melanie Ann Montgomery.

Shane grew up in Hoschton Georgia, graduated from Winder Barrow High School, Gardner Webb in Shelby North Carolina and UNC Charlotte in Charlotte North Carolina. He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church where he accepted JESUS as his Savior and was baptised by Pastor Larry Wynn on August 18 1991.

Shane was inspired by his Grandfather Coach Raymond Montgomery's example and became a Coach himself. His coaching career included Rockstar Cheer Greenville SC., Ice All-Stars Aurora Ill., Cheer Conditioning Academy and Marietta Stingrays in Marietta Georgia.

The kids Shane coached, their parents, those who coached with him and the ones who knew him described him as:

  • Having pure passion for the kids and coaching
  • Genuinely cared about the kids succeeding
  • Had a positive impact on the kids lives
  • Showed extreme dedication to coaching and kids
  • Was a mentor to the coaching profession
  • He lifted the spirits of everyone
  • He laughed with the kids
  • Was personally invested in each kid
  • Constantly encouraging everyone
  • Kind, genuine, respectful, fun
  • Treated others with respect
  • Truly one of a kind
  • Adored by the kids
  • Inspired everyone
  • Had a unique ability to connect to all
  • Incredible knowledge
  • Huge Heart, asset to all humanity
  • Loved by everyone
  • Shaped and equipped many for life, not just sports
  • Awesome, Awesome individual
  • Unique sense of humor and expressions


Shane loved his family, his relatives, God's Creation and especially the Mountains and Streams of North Georgia.

An April 23rd 2026 post by Coach Shane reads:

  1. Yall sing God blessed Texas
  2. But I don't think he did
  3. God blessed Georgia
  4. Have yall been outside today?
  5. Because
  6. It's the garden of Eden
  7. All over the place
  8. Ima go get my legs wet in the creek
  9. Climb up something
  10. Way too high
  11. Take the chopping axe and build a warming fire
  12. later
  13. And cook steak
  14. On a stick
  15. Like Marshmallows
  16. Or wieners
  17. Over that fire

  • I got a dozen off grid uncles and cousins
  • And I'm starting to get jealous
  • If flipping coaching wasn't so flipping fun
  • I'd just stay in the woods
  • And the water
