Ted Ray Bruton,age 81, passed away while holding hands with Jamae, his wife of 55 years, on Sunday, July 20,2025, at Mission Memorial in Asheville, NC. He was born on November 22, 1943, in Covington, KY.
Ted was an easy-going, friendly, man of faith, and lover of people. He enjoyed traveling, camping, singing in the church choir, hiking, and watching old western movies. He served in the Air Force, and remained a loyal supporter of all veterans.
Ted graduated from Powell Valley High School in Virginia, and received a Bachelor’s degree from Florida Technological Institute. He worked as an electronic technician for Lockheed Missile Corporation at Cape Kennedy. He then earned a Master’s degree from Nova University and taught at Palm Bay High School in Melbourne, Florida for the rest of his career.
After retiring, he and Jamae moved to Blairsville, Georgia, and fell in love with mountain living. Ted became an active member of Sharp Memorial UMC in Young Harris, where he served on various committees and sang in the choir. His sense of humor, sunny disposition, and twinkling blue eyes made him easy to meet and difficult to forget.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, July 30, at Sharp Memorial UMC at 3 PM, in Young Harris, Georgia. Please, no flowers. In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation to Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church, Young Harris, Georgia, or Wounded Warriors.
