James Timothy McDaris, affectionately known as "Tim" left his earthly home on Thursday July 2, 2026 surrounded by his loving family and close friends following a courageous fight with Ataxia.
Tim was a native of Smyrna, Georgia where he enjoyed a wonderful childhood, he was a graduate of Campbell High School and attended Kennesaw College. Tim was retired from the US Postal Service after 35 years and was the co-owner of the Bad Moon Rising Cycle Shop, where he enjoyed countless hours of fun and hard work, making many friends that lasted a lifetime.
Tim left behind a legacy of fun, he was known for his quick wit, energy, his sweet smile, and his ability to ride a motorcycle on an adventure for endless hours, always stopping for ice cream.
He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours with his family and friends at the beach, riding motorcycles and later in life, side by side adventures to West Virginia and beyond.
Tim was a loving Son to his parents Jim & Jeanette and his Sister Cindy. As his life continued he was the "fun" Uncle to LJ and Chance and continued that legacy when his great niece and nephew Braelyn and Jameson came along. He also extended that love to his Brother in Law John and Niece Alicia, who always showed great care and love for as she kept track of all of Tim's many doctor's visits and medical appointments!
Tim was also privileged to have a close group of friends that he considered Brothers in the greatest sense of the word. They enjoyed great adventures on motorcycles, snowmobiles and later side by side adventures. These gentlemen were his rock during his extended illness, continuing to visit him and lifting his spirits at the assisted living and the hospital.
In Tim's final chapter of life he was fortunate enough to have the love and care of the staff at The Lodge at Blue Ridge Assisted Living, including his tireless Physical Therapist Crista, that kept Tim "on his feet" when his disease was winning. Know as "TIM,TIM" by most of the staff, these angels on earth worked tirelessly to provide him with care and love.
Preceded in death by his Father, James McDaris, Tim will be remembered and dearly missed by his loving Mother, Jeanette Hyatt McDaris, his Sister Cindy Querry and Brother in Law John, his nephews John Edward "LJ" Querry and Alicia, nephew James "Chance" Querry, and his great niece and nephew Braelyn and Jameson Querry.
Tim's Homegoing Service will be Sunday, July 5th at Cochran|McDaniel Funeral Home, Blue Ridge Chapel. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 with a service following at 2:00pm in the Chapel with James Thomason.
Following the service, Tim's final resting place will be beside his beloved Dad in the Hamptown Baptist Church Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Dwayne Priest, Tim McNeill, Todd Pruitt, Joey Walker, Bruce Silverman and Shawn Goss.
Honoring their Uncle as escorts will be Jameson & Braelyn Querry.
