Virginia “Gin” Vaughn Fisher, age 90, of Hiawassee, Georgia, entered peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on April 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and the compassionate caregivers of HomeInstead, in the comfort of her home.
Born on July 19, 1935, in Miami, Florida, Virginia was the daughter of Charles Roland Vaughn and Elma (Kaufmann) Vaughn. She lived a life marked by deep faith, devotion to family, and a passion for teaching and creativity. She dedicated 33 years to the Dade County Public Schools as a high school business education teacher and department chair, inspiring countless students and earning recognition as a Master Teacher by the State of Florida.
Virginia was a proud graduate of Miami High School and continued her education at Florida State University before transferring to the University of Alabama, where she helped found a chapter of Alpha Xi Delta. She later earned her master’s degree from the University of Miami.
A woman of abiding faith, Virginia was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Miami and Kendall Presbyterian Church, and more recently attended Mountain Presbyterian Church in Blairsville. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her with grace, strength, and kindness.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Howard Henry Fisher, Jr. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Howard Steven Fisher (Karin) and Lynn Fisher Hauth (John); her grandchildren, Amanda Sobrinski (Tim), Ashley Fisher, J. Kendall Hauth, Connor Hauth, Scott Fisher, Jacob Hoofman (Jessica), and Kyle Hoofman (Kaylee); and her cherished great-grandchildren, Aiden and Chloe Yurkiewicz; Emilia, Vaughn, and Adeline Sobrinski; and Jameson and Jensen Hoofman.
Virginia found great joy as an avid seamstress and artisan, creating beautiful pieces with her hands and love in her heart. She treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she and her husband, Howard, shared a special joy in working on projects together, both in their own home and in the homes of their children. Also, in retirement, Virginia enjoyed traveling with Howard and giving back to the community in various ways. She was proud of her 18 years of dedicated service to Regency Hospice, for which she was recognized in 2010.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the entire HomeInstead team for their loving care and companionship over the past several years. The family would especially like to recognize Red, Nivla, Joy, Linda, Lela, Hayley, and Sherry for their profound dedication and the love they showed. Lastly, the family extends its sincerest gratitude to Pruitt Hospice for their compassionate support.
A celebration of Virginia’s life will be held on July 18th at Mountain Presbyterian Church. Time to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Presbyterian Church. Additionally, the family encourages acts of kindness and service in her memory, reflecting the faith and love she so beautifully lived each day.
