Wayne Sprinkles, 90, quietly slipped from this life on October 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, steadfast love, and the kind of warmth that made every room feel brighter just because he was in it. Born on June 29, 1936, on Fodder Creek in Hiawassee, Georgia, to the late Elmer and Vella Sprinkles, Wayne lived a life rooted in hard work, deep faith, and the simple joys of family and home.
He served his country with honor in the United States Army Infantry. For most of his working years he was a skilled heavy equipment operator, retiring from NOK in Cleveland, Georgia. It was while working for Wimpy Construction in Plant City, Florida, that he met Betty Jean Cole, the woman who would become his beloved wife of 54 years. Together they built a life of partnership, shared faith, and enduring devotion.
Wayne was a loving husband , father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose greatest pride and deepest joy was his family. He was a man of Christian faith whose infectious smile and easy laughter could light up any gathering. You always knew when he was near-by the sound of his singing, the warmth of his grin, and the way he could cut up and make everyone around him feel at ease. He loved nothing more than riding his pontoon boat, piddling around the family homestead, and porch sitting with those he loved, soaking in the quiet moments that meant the most. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye, and his great-grandson, Jonathan Waylon-whom he affectionately called his "little man"-held a special place in his heart.
To know Wayne was to love Wayne. He will be remembered for the way he loved without reservation, the laughter he freely shared, and the steady presence he offered to those closest to him. He passed peacefully with his granddaughter Kayla by his side.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Cole Sprinkles, and his two sons, Terrence Portfolio and Jonathan Wayne Sprinkles.
He is survived by his sister, Shirley Sprinkles Swanson of Hiawassee, Georgia; his granddaughter, Kayla Alayne Sprinkles and his great-grandson, Jonathan Waylon of Hayesville, North Carolina; his grandson, Landon Joseph Sprinkles of Hiawassee, Georgia; and his nephew, Dwight Swanson of Hiawassee, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday October 20, 2026 at Cochran McDaniel Funeral Home in Hiawassee, Georgia, at 3:00 pm.
The family will receive friends in a time of visitation the Funeral Home from 1:00pm until the 3:00pm Funeral Service hour.
