William Abraham Barker, 65, of Blue Ridge, Georgia, passed away on June 26, 2026. He was born on November 25, 1960, in Greenwood, Mississippi, to Roy and Olivia Barker.
William was known for his strong work ethic, disciplined approach to life, and unwavering sense of responsibility. Yet those who knew him best also knew his mischievous sense of humor and his ability to slow down and appreciate life's simple pleasures.
Flying was his greatest passion. He built a career as an aviation pilot, doing what he loved most. One of his favorite experiences was flying into Alaska for work, where he also enjoyed spending time mining for gold. As those who loved him now say, "Fly High, My Man."
William proudly served his country in the United States Army Special Forces, where he honorably dedicated himself to serving others with courage and commitment.
Above all else, William was devoted to his family. He recently celebrated 44 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Deann Barker. He was a proud father, grandfather, husband, and friend whose love and guidance touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Deann Elizabeth Barker; his children, Nicole Elizabeth Barker, Mitchell Eugene (Rile) Barker and Joshua Abraham Barker; his grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth McSwain, Owen Barker, Montgomery Barker, and Virgil Barker; his siblings, Maxwell Barker, Marjorie Barker, and Pamela Barker; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Olivia Barker, and his brother, Roy Mitchell Barker.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Cochran McDaniel Funeral Home & Crematories in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at 255 S. Grape Street, Pinebluff, North Carolina.
William's strength, humor, love, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
