William "Bill" Cochran, age 81, of Cherry Log, Georgia, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023. Bill was born March 29, 1942, in Cherry Log, GA to Sidney Manuel and Tilda Stanley Cochran. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Barbara Ann Cochran; sisters, Amanda, Bernice, Oleta, and Birdie Jane; brothers, Aldon, Cletis, Eugene, Everett, Wilford, and Orlean.
He is survived by his son Timothy (Laura) Cochran; brother Milford Cochran; sister, Wylene Patterson and special friend and caregiver, Joyce Blackmon.
Bill was a veteran and was proud of his service in the United States Army. He was stationed in Korea for three years of his service. Bill was a very accomplished carpenter, however, he was known for his ability to do several trades, which he mastered throughout his life.
Bill was a tremendous mandolin player and music was a huge part of his life. He was the founder of the Wolf Creek Bluegrass group and performed often on the platforms around the community. He especially enjoyed playing music at the Copper Basin Community Center in Ducktown, Tennesee. Bill was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, on November 24, 2018.
Funeral Service, on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Henry-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tom Jordan officiating. Music provided by Janice Reid. Interment will follow in the Chastain Memorial Cemetery. Military rights will be conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at Henry-Cochran Funeral Home, Sunday, September 3, 2023, from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM.
