William Hoyt McGill, Jr. of Morganton, GA, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on December 18, 2025. He was born on May 12, 1949, in McCaysville, GA, to Hoyt and Irene McGill.
William found his career as a butcher, where he skillfully carved meat for many years. His dedication to his work was evident, but it was his warm heart that truly defined him. He loved God deeply and shared that love freely with his family and others around him. His commitment to faith was reflected in his service as a deacon at Union Hill Baptist Church, where he proudly served members for 50 years.
In his free time, William found great joy in the great outdoors. Fishing and hunting allowed him to connect with God's creative world, where he would often spend hours soaking in nature's beauty. He also found solace in gardening, taking delight in watching plants grow under his care. Cooking and baking were cherished hobbies, and he loved sharing his delicious creations with friends and family, bringing joy to their gatherings.
He is survived by his children Matthew (Fiance Jennifer Beavers) McGill, and Amy (Billy Joe) Messer. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kelsey (Daniel) Davenport, Ashley (Tyler) Franklin, Samuel McGill, Faith Beavers, Hope Beavers, James (Tiffany) Messer, and Anna Messer; great-grandchildren, Oliver Franklin, Nolan Franklin, and Mason Messer. He is also survived by many additional family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Robbie McGill; parents, Hoyt and Irene McGill; and siblings, Dallas McGill, Donnie McGill, and Sue Baker.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at 11:00 am at Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, GA, with Rev. Darvin Couch and Rev. Jeff Fair officiating.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 2:00-6:00 pm at Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, GA.
Interment will follow at Chastain Memorial Park in Blue Ridge, GA.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Matthew McGill, Billy Joe Messer, James Messer, Samuel McGill, Tyler Franklin, and Ricky Allen.
William's warm personality and unwavering faith have left a legacy that will be remembered fondly by those whose lives he touched. He was not just a family man, but a true friend to many.
